There are certain criteria that must be met to be granted a study permit. According to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR), international students may be issued a study permit if an examination warrants that they meet the basic criteria applicable to all temporary resident applicants as well as the criteria specific to students. These may include, but not limited to:

  • 1. LOA
  • 2. Tuition Fees
  • 3. Funds
  • 4. Transportation
  • 5. Medical

     A letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution

     Ability to pay the tuition fees for the course or program of choice

     Ability to support themselves or additional family members they intend to bring with them

     Ability to cover transportation costs for themselves as well as family members coming with them

     Pass the IRCC medical examination (if required)

There can be certain exemptions though. It is best to know which apply to your specific situation.
