Visa Extensions

Congratulations! Checking this page for visa extension means you are here in Canada to either visit, study or work. And after some time, you realized that Canada has something for you and you want to stay longer.

Now, if you want to extend your stay in Canada as a visitor, you need to apply for a visitor record. A visitor record is not a visa but rather a document that gives you status as a visitor in Canada and allows you to stay longer. It is intended for those who:

  • extend their stay in Canada as a visitor, or
  • change their permit type from
** study permit to a visitor record
** a work permit to a visitor record

It includes a new expiry date and that’s the new date that you must leave Canada by. It doesn’t matter if you entered Canada using a visitor visa, electronic travel authorization (eTA) or another document. If you want to extend your stay in Canada as a visitor, you need a visitor record.

When to apply for a visitor record

A visitor record must be applied before your current status expires. If you’re not sure when your status expires, find out how long you can stay in Canada. It must be noted though that it doesn’t guarantee that you can leave and then re-enter Canada.

If you plan to EXTEND YOUR STAY in Canada, BIG LEAP IMMIGRATION SUPPORT AND SERVICES is here TO HELP you.
